FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
📅 When does the hockey season start and end?
The RRYHA season typically runs from October through March. Some teams may have optional preseason conditioning in September, and postseason tournaments may extend into late March or early April.
📍 Where are practices and games held?
Most practices and home games take place at:
- Iron Trail Motors Event Center, aka It-Mec (Virginia, MN)
- Eveleth Hippodrome, aka Hipp (Eveleth, MN)
- David Skenzich Ice Arena, aka Bubble (Gilbert, MN)
- Away games and tournaments will be scheduled throughout northern Minnesota and beyond, depending on the level of play.
⏰ How often are practices and games?
- Mini-Mites, Mites, Girls 8U (Ages 4-8): 2-3 weekly practices, 6-10 games per season.
- Squirts, Girls 10U, Peewees, Girls 12U, Bantams, and Girls 14U (Ages 9-14/15): 3-4 weekly practices, 30-45 games per season.
👕 Are jerseys provided, or do we need to purchase them?
- Game jerseys & socks – Typically provided by the association and may need to be returned at the end of the season.
- Practice jerseys – May be provided, but players may need to purchase their own.
- Optional team apparel (warm-ups, hoodies, etc.) is available for purchase.
💲 What additional costs should we expect beyond registration fees?
- Hockey equipment (skates, helmet, pads, gloves, stick, etc.)
- Travel expenses (hotels, gas, meals for tournaments)
- Skate sharpening & extra training opportunities (optional but recommended)
- Additional team gear or apparel (optional)
🏒 Can my child play hockey if they have never skated before?
Absolutely! RRYHA encourages new players to join at any age. Virginia Figure Skating Clubs also offers Learn-to-Skate and beginner programs to help young athletes build confidence on the ice.
📩 How do I register my child for the season?
Registration is typically available online before the season starts. Keep an eye on our website and social media posts for registration details and deadlines.
🤝 How can parents get involved?
RRYHA is a volunteer-driven organization, and we always need help! Parents can:
- Volunteer for the board of directors or team roles (coaching, team manager, etc.)
- Help with fundraising & sponsorships
- Assist with game-day needs like scorekeeping or penalty box duty
